Brief Introduction of Program

The BS Optometry & Orthoptics program at the School of Allied Health Sciences, CMH Lahore Medical College, and IOD (affiliated with University of Health Sciences, Lahore), is a four-year degree designed to produce skilled Optometrists. The field of Optometry is evolving rapidly, with an increasing demand for qualified eye care professionals who can address the growing burden of visual impairment and ocular disorders worldwide. This program encompasses basic to advanced studies in Clinical Optometry, Orthoptics, Low Vision Rehabilitation, Contact Lens Practice, and Ocular Disease Management, equipping students with comprehensive knowledge and practical skills.

  • To prepare competent graduates with scientific knowledge and practical skills in Optometry.
  • To promote the rehabilitation of possible eye conditions.
  • To contribute to community eye health services through research interventions.
  • To produce professionals capable of working in both national and international hospitals, teaching institutes, NGOs, and eyewear companies.
  • Degree Title: BS Optometry & Orthoptics
  • Duration: 4 years (8 semesters)
  • Affiliation: University of Health Sciences (UHS), Lahore
  • Medium of Instruction: English
  • Eligibility: Sc (Pre-Medical) or equivalent with minimum 50% marks
  • Admission / Selection Process:
    1. Admissions will be made on merit determined according to the marks obtained in Matric & F.Sc / equivalent exam as per the following weightage.
    2. Qualification Test: Weightage
    3. Matric / equivalent = 20%
    4. Sc / equivalent = 50%
    5. Aptitude Test = 30%
    6. Admission to the local and foreign seats will be conducted based on merit only.
    7. Admissions will be strictly on merit. Any student having incomplete results / academic documents on the closing date for the admission application will not be considered for admission.
    8. The admission committee will supervise the whole admission process.
  • A graduate of the BS (Hons) Optometry & Orthoptics program will have diverse career opportunities, including:

    • In Hospitals: They can work in Hospitals, Clinics, and Rehabilitation centers
    • Community Optometry: In NGOs, Public Health community programs, and government initiatives.
    • Low Vision Rehabilitation: Special education programs
    • Academic career: As a lecturer and researcher in universities and medical Colleges.
