School of Allied Health Sciences
Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT)

Brief Introduction of Program

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology (BS-MLT) is a four-year undergraduate program that provides comprehensive knowledge and training in the field of diagnostic and clinical laboratory sciences. The program equips students with the technical expertise to perform, analyze, and validate laboratory tests essential for accurate diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of diseases.

The primary purpose of this program is to develop competent, ethical, and skilled laboratory technologists who can contribute to healthcare delivery systems, medical research, and public health initiatives. The program aims to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical training to ensure graduates are prepared to meet national and international standards in laboratory practice.

  • Duration: 4 years (8 semesters)
  • Eligibility: F.Sc. Pre-Medical / A-Level (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) or equivalent qualification.
  • Curriculum Coverage:
    • Basic Medical Sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry)
    • Core Laboratory Sciences (Hematology, Histopathology, Chemical Pathology, Microbiology, Immunology, Blood Banking, Molecular Biology & Genetics)
    • Laboratory Instrumentation, Automation, and Quality Control
    • Research Methodology & Biostatistics
    • Clinical Rotations and Internship in affiliated hospitals
  • Teaching Methodology: Lectures, laboratory demonstrations, hospital-based training, research projects, and case-based learning.

Graduates of the MLT program have diverse career opportunities, including:

    • Clinical laboratories in hospitals and diagnostic centers.
    • Research institutions and pharmaceutical industries.
    • Public health laboratories and epidemiology centers.
    • Academic positions in medical and allied health colleges.
    • Technical support and application specialists in diagnostic equipment companies.
    • Pursuit of higher education (M.Phil./Ph.D.) in related biomedical sciences.
  • Eligibility Criteria (Local & Foreign Students)

    • Applicants must have F.Sc (Pre-Medical) or an equivalent qualification from a recognized board/examination system in Pakistan or abroad.
    • A minimum of three science subjects is required, of which Biology and Chemistry are compulsory.
    • The third subject may be either Physics or Mathematics.
    • A minimum of 60% marks (660/1100) in aggregate is required (marks of Hifz-e-Quran are not included).
    • For foreign qualifications, IBCC equivalence will be mandatory and accepted for aggregate calculation.

    Admission / Selection Process

Admissions will be made strictly on merit. The merit will be calculated based on the following weightage:

    Qualification/Test

    Weightage

    Matric / Equivalent

    20%

    F.Sc / Equivalent

    50%

    Aptitude Test

    30%

    • Admission for both local and foreign seats will be on the basis of open merit only.
    • Candidates with incomplete results or missing academic documents on the closing date of applications will not be considered.
    • The Admission Committee will supervise and finalize the entire admission process.
